R.A.C. Career Progression

RAC Rank Structure - January 1, 2002

RAC operates under a modified military rank structure.  Ranks, up to that of Captain, are awarded based on length of service and dedication to the Squadron. Ranks above Captain are reserved for the Command Team members and are awarded on a temporary basis while that member is an active Command Team member.  Upon leaving the Command Team the pilot reverts back to his previous rank of Captain.  The Squadron Commanding Officer and the remainder of the Command Team are voted into their positions by the eligible Squadron membership.  The vote occurs twice per year.  All Squadron policy is decided by the CO in consultation with, and by approval of the CT.

RAC's current rank structure is listed below:

NEW RECRUITS

WARRANT OFFICER (WO): Upon acceptance into the Squadron new members are assigned the rank of Warrant Officer for a probationary period.  WOs will be issued passwords to the training forum and servers and are encouraged to participate in squadron training sessions.  After 1 month of active and honorable service in RAC WOs will be eligible for promotion to Second Lieutenant with the approval of the CO and Command Team.  At the CO's discretion, and with CT approval, new recruits who are long standing and honorable members of the RB community may be inducted into the squadron at 2nd LT. rank immediately.

PERMANENT RANKS

SECOND LIEUTENANT:  is the first "permanent" rank in RAC.  2nd Lts. are granted full access to the secure forums and website areas.  They will be offered advanced flight & combat training and are eligible to participate in squadron wars against other teams.  After 5 months as 2nd Lt. active pilots are eligible for promotion to full Lieutenant.

LIEUTENANT: As a Lt. you will be offered continuing advanced combat training and combat leadership training (commanding and leading flights into battle).  After 6 months of service as Lt active pilots are eligible for promotion to Captain.

CAPTAIN: This is the highest permanent rank in RAC and is awarded to pilots that have completed one year of satisfactory active service with RAC.  Captains are eligible for nomination to Command Team positions (including CO of the squad).

TEMPORARY HIGHER RANKS

Ranks higher than Captain are ONLY awarded on a temporary basis to duly elected active members of the Command Team.

MAJOR:  This is an temporary "acting" rank bestowed on all Command Team members.  Majors and above will be granted access to the CT forums and website areas and will have an active role in the running of the squadron.  All Majors will have a specific assigned job function within the Command Team (Admin Officer, Training Officer, etc.) which they are expected to fulfill.  They will vote on all issues related to RAC policy and operating procedures and may veto any Executive Orders from the CO with a 2/3 majority vote.  Upon resignation, or at the completion or termination of their term of service CT members will revert to the rank of Captain.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL:  This is a temporary "acting" rank bestowed upon the squadron Executive Officer (XO).  The XO will "chair" the Command Team at meetings and report to the CO with CT recommendations.  The XO will execute, or delegate any assignments handed down by the CO.  Upon leaving the job the XO will relinquish the Lt. Col rank and revert to either Major (if still in CT) or Captain.

COLONEL:  This is a temporary "acting" rank bestowed upon the squadron Commanding Officer.  The CO leads the squadron.  The CO has the authority to issue Executive Orders pertaining to all areas of RAC operations.  These orders will be regarded as final and binding unless vetoed by a 2/3 majority of the Command Team.  Upon leaving the job the CO will relinquish the Colonel rank and revert to either Major (if still in CT) or Captain.

THE COMMAND TEAM

The composition of the Command Team is decided by nomination and vote once every six months.  Nominees must have attained the rank of Captain to be eligible.  The vote is conducted amongst ALL active RAC Pilots above the rank of Warrant Officer. The Command Team is the final deciding body for all issues related to RAC operations and procedures.  Issues will be decided by a simple majority vote except in the case of a veto of an Executive Order by the CO., or to overule a CO's veto of a CT decision in that case a 75% majority is required.  Command Team members fulfill the following functions in RAC:
