Personal History:
Captain Shnoze Shmon writes:
"The Birth of Shnoze Shmon, or at least his name anyway.
"Many have wanted to know how I came up with such a "different" name.
Simple: I'm different. lol
"Seriously it grew from my sense of humor as I played the original Red Baron. I found Red Baron sometime around the middle of 1998 shortly after I got access to a computer that would handle it. As I played the campaigns I invariably felt the need to make up names for my pilots. I don't remember which part of my name I came up with first.
"It seemed like the slang term for the nose "Schnoze" humorously fit for a German pilot. At some point I decided to come up with a German last name. Well in English we have Joe Shmoe as a slightly derogative reference to the unknown dunce, and there is also the term "Shmuck". So Von Schmon seemed to fit for the German version of this. Soon the two were combined to form Schnoze Schmon.
"I found RB3D in February of 99 and snatched it right up. After the stunned sensations began to wear off over the difference I found myself once again inventing names for campaigns. The only name to carry over was my favorite German Shnoze Schmon. In fact all my German pilots were to be his brothers. There was Ron, Hon Von, Dershwine, and Dumkoff,...at least so far. My Allied pilots names were equally inventive one example being the British pilot Randy Roadkill. I started him out as a Major so in all the debriefings it was always Major Roadkill this, Major Roadkill that. lol
"Finally I got internet access late in December 2000, however, it was not until I found a thread pointing me to Herr Mac's tutorial that I found out how to play online. (Thanks again Mac) So Jan. 4th I was ready to make my "Grand Appearance" but the name thing came up again. I might have chosen something else if I had understood how ones name was the focal point of recognition and forming base of friendships on the net but I chose it on a lark as the name I would first use in the online game. So Shnoze Shmon made his hilarious and of course unimpressive debut on mmp. After realizing that I was being recognized by my name by others and therefore past events associated with me I decided to keep the name permanently. (This took less then a week. lol) Also this resulted in my not using an alias flying on line for over 6 months, and I still very rarely do.
"What happened to the "C"s in my name?
"I'm not sure if I ever put a C in Shnoze, but if so it was dropped when I went to 3D. After I had been flying on line for a week I realized I had left the C out of Shmon. I decided not to even change this much in my name, which is just as well because when I joined RAC there wasn't enough room for it anyway. It makes perfect sense for them to be there, so I consider it to be correct if someone happens to put one or both in when typing my name, but whenever you see me on line it will be RAC_Shnoze_Shmon.
"Online and cocky!
"Talk about entering mmp cocky! I had been flying sp for almost 2 years and thought I was the stuff. I entered a melee server and said; "This is my first time in Red Baron online who wants to be my first kill?" LOL What a shock I had!
"From about a half dozen guys two left shortly after my arrival and 3 decided to check out the stratosphere thus putting an end to my consistently short flights. The last guy amused himself by bombing the drome and every once in a while I could make enough of a nuisance to get myself shot down.
"I left after a bit and entered a team target (Verdun AFM) server and after a few poor attempts a pilot felt sorry for me and gave me some lessons. As a result, I always try to return the favor when I find a newbie having a hard time."
A highly accomplished bomber and squirrel fancier, Captain Shnoze Shmon participated in our winning RBWL VI team in 2005. In case you're in any doubt, he lives in Texas.
