Personal History:
Captain Mic Cloud (AKA
"Ace London") writes: "Now there was a time
that Dogbreath, Questions, Horrido, Lil' Sparrow, and
Shnoze Shmon were sitting at the poker table with London Mic Cloud while they all were serving scramble duty. It was an ordinary day like any
other,
and the enemy hadn't been sighted for days now. The mood was
relaxed,
the beer was good, and the poker game was competitive. The others just
couldn't figure why London was winning most of the hands: 'beginners luck'
they figured."
"Suddenly the forward air sirens went off, and the communications officer ran
out and yelled, 'A flight of four Fokker DVIIs escorting three DIIs sighted justnorth of Nancy, SCRAMBLE! SCRAMBLE! SCRAMBLE!' "
"All six pilots threw their cards and rushed to their planes, each with their
own weakness and strengths. The flight leader today, Questions, yelled
out, 'Watch Mic's back, he's a new one and I want him alive more than 17
hrs!'. Since the young fellow had already 15 hrs flight time, they felt his number
was up!"
"While in flight they broke off into two teams, one to go further up the
front, and the other to head the other direction down the Front. These
DVIIs were tricky, and close teamwork was needed. When the flight of Huns and
the
bombers were sighted, not exactly where the communication said, they fired
flares to reel back in the rest of the team. Once together, the engaged
the
enemy. The fight was intense and evolving into a stalemate, the pilots
decided to try some 'unorthodox' tactics. Their way of saying, Bait 'n' Hook!"
"Questions yelled out to Mic, 'I want you to take your Camel, and get
infront of the lead plane, and get him to fixate on you, trust me you'll
live!' Looking at his Purple Heart and thinking to himself, 'I've heard
that before,' Mic follows Q's orders and dives infront of the DVII. Of
course, the DVII pilot sees what he thinks is an easy kill, and starts to
unload the cannons. Questions, behind the DVII, starts to fire...only to
have
his guns jam up! In a scramble for a solution Mic remembers how weak those
DVII engines are, pulls out the four Ace cards he'd been hiding in his flight
jacket sleeve, and tosses them at the DVII. Luckily, the card flys right
through the props, and lodges straight in the carburator! The DVII's engine
chokes up and dies, causing the DVII to enter into a glide. The whole time
trying to unjam his guns, Questions sees London pull the Aces and toss em at
the D7, 'That little b****r, I knew he knew how to play poker!'."
"London then dives on the D7, and puts a bullet into the pilots head, thus
ending the fight. While back on the ground, Questions runs up to Mic and
yells 'Ace! Gimme back my money,' and slugs him in the noggin.
The others
run up and separate the two, Lil' pipes up 'What's goin on here!'
Q
explains what he saw, and the others start to advance towards him."
"Lil' stops them and calmly asks 'Mic, you'll give the money back
right?' 'Yessir' he says quickly. 'You'll never do that again will you?'
'No sir.' ' I see only one alternative then, you're stuck with Ace so every can
remember
that move you pulled on the DVII and not to play poker with you, not for money
anyway'."
"And that is how London Mic Cloud got the nickname 'Ace'."
Captain Mic Cloud is now retired following a short but successful tour of active
service as a fighter pilot.
